Cavendish breaks clear to win again
July 12th, 2008 by Ricky BlayneyTdF Stage 8: Figeac - Toulouse (172.5km)
It was one of the easier sprint finishes you will ever see on the Tour de France, it was wet, probably not overly warm, and nobody else for some reason seemd to interested. Either that or they just knew they stood no chance agaisnt the self proclaimed fastest man in the world. A claim which he is backing up in fine fashion. Yes, 23 year old British rider, Mark Cavendish won his second stage today, the only man to have won two stages at the Tour this year, and his fame continues to grow.
It was a flat stage, baring a few kicks up near the start and even smaller ones towards the end and that suited the sprinters teams as they reeled in the breakaway in the final few kilometres. They did it close enough to the finish to ensure nobody else would make a run for the line and so it set up the big sprint finish.
Of course, there was no change to the overall and tomorrow things start to get very interesting. Two category 1 climbs towards the end of the stage will really shake things up and test the legs of those really considering themselves to be contenders for the overall crown in Paris in two weeks.
