Ulster MTB Championships, Tievenadarragh Forest

August 27th, 2006 by Eric Blayney

Roger Aiken won the Ulster MTB championships today at Tievenadarragh Forrest near Ballynahinch. Organised by the busy Dromara club they were well supported and all the riders and spectators were highly complimentary about the layout and condition of the course. Well done Dromara.

Despite some heavy showers during the main events the course held up and the roots didn’t claim too many victims. In the elite race Lewis Ferguson seemed to have regained some form and opened up a lead which stretched to 5 of the six laps. His maximum lead over Roger Aiken was never more than about 30 seconds but on Roger cut this significantly on lap 5 and went on the pass Lewis for the title on the last lap. They finished well clear of the chasers. Connor McConvey looked safe for 3rd but had a mechanical failure which ended his race. Graham Boyd won the junior race and Neil McGimpsey the under 16s. Full results will be posted on receipt from Andy.
