Woodburn%20CC%2066.jpgTeam BHB rider Lewis Ferguson notched up his hat trick of wins with victory in Team Madigans weather ravaged cyclo cross event at Woodburn Forest. For once the weather forecast was right, gusting winds accompanied by heavy rain and sleet. It should be said that this Woodburn course was not the perfect venue for a cyclo cross event, however in the week leading up to the race the organisers had to make a number of changes due to pressure from various governing bodies. Conditions during racing proved tortuous as the riders had to contend with driving wind and rain, as well as the mud filled forest sections.

MGM to release Obree movie in the U.S.

November 16th, 2006 by Ricky Blayney

VeloNews Editorial Director

Millerasobree.jpgVeloNews.com — Not since “Breaking Away” (1979) has there been a true bike-racing film to hit the big screen - unless we include the animated “Les Triplettes de Belleville” (2003). The long wait maybe worthwhile because Variety magazine announced Wednesday that MGM has bought worldwide distribution rights to the Graeme Obree biopic “The Flying Scotsman.” It will debut at U.S. theatres on December 29.

The new movie is based on the autobiography of Obree, the eccentric Scottish amateur cyclist who astounded the cycling world in 1993 by breaking Francesco Moser’s world hour record. Obree cooperated fully in the making of the film, and he even acts as a stand-in for himself in some of the racing scenes for lead actor Jonny Lee Miller. Miller, the star of cult movie “Trainspotting” (1996), was married to Angelina Jolie for four years after they both starred in “Hackers” (1995).

Ferguson wins 2nd in a row in Castle Park

November 12th, 2006 by Eric Blayney

Lewis

Lewis Ferguson inflicted a rare defeat on multiple cross champion Robin Seymour at Castle Park today. The two riders rode together for much of the race with any attacks being countered or thwarted by mechanical or technical troubles (falling off, in other words). Lewis got the decisive gap with about two laps to go and managed to hold it until the finish despite a major effort by Robin. Ray Brownfield continues an impressive comeback with a comfortable third and could be a serious contender for medals at the championships. (Just hope you don’t retire again Ray!).

Photos should be up by tonight, with a bonus of some video!!!, if Ricky pulls his finger out.

Marco Pantani - The Movie

November 2nd, 2006 by Ricky Blayney

PantaniCyclingnews.com — Italian Bibi Ballandi is directing a fictional film based on the life of Marco Pantani, winner of the 1998 Giro d’Italia and Tour de France, who passed away on February 14, 2004. Il Pirata-l’orgoglio ritrovato will star Rolando Ravello as Marco Pantani and will be aired on Italian television this spring.

Filming was underway the this last week in Pantani’s hometown of Cesenatico, where Ballandi was working with his film crew to reproduce the “Pantani Day,” from eight years ago, on August 12th, when Marco Pantani was celebrated after returning from winning the Tour de France.
